There’s a spiritual maxim that, paraphrased, says the purpose of the universe is humanity, and the purpose of humanity is to find joy. I’ve found great depth in its simplicity but it’s also ironic in that I’ve often ignored the principle; I’m more often than not the unyieldingly serious one, more interested in the task completion than enjoying the moment or the person. But when I can move away from the binary done/not done, life becomes richer; I’m a better father, husband and friend, and frankly feel more fulfilled.
Photography forces me to slow down, take in the journey and immerse my self in the present; it’s a powerful tool for me to engage on a human level. My kids have memorized my maxim, but the true test will be if I can show them how to live joyfully, and I imagine my example will be the best way.” – Nate ( @nathan_david_arnold )
