Sweetheart, I’ll Be Late Tonight

Humans of Photography 15You might not have recognized this old bird, but, it’s the wreckage of the US NAVY DC-3, famously crashed and abandoned by its crew in November 1973 on an Icelandic black sand beach. For the record, to capture this untouched plane for 40 years, I settled on using a 14mm lens and developed it under 16:9 format. In this setup, you can feel yourself immersed in a chaotic scene, with a strange no flat perspective and a cinematographic aspect. For once in this Iceland journey, I got lucky with troubled weather full of character. I have to confess, a clean or crystal clear blue sky is not my favorite to shoot… Personally, a cloudy and lively sky with high density is clearly a must for B&W pics. I’m really happy with this pic, encapsulating to me this very Icelandic emotion : Mother Nature reign over ingenious, brilliant but fragile human inventions. Here I was, staring at an eerie plane and disturbing the well-earned peace of this retired human artifact. – Louis LEFRANC @pitaow
