The Wonder of Childhood

The Wonder of Childhood

untitled-44_AuroraHDR_HDRMy wife and I decided to take our 11-year old niece on a trip to Australia to give her a chance to experience the world beyond her home in America. After a visit to Sydney, we traveled to Bundaberg in Queensland, where my wife’s family makes their home 2 blocks from the majestic Pacific Ocean. The sun setting over the ocean is a sight to behold so I grabbed my camera and headed to the beach with my niece close on my heels, as she lives far away from the beach at home. I spent my time obliviously snapping landscape shots while she ran to the water and jumped and played. Then, I saw her drawing in the sand and all thoughts of landscapes melted away. Any photographer (amateur or professional) knows when they are about to shoot an amazing set of pictures and I knew these would be perfect for my sister to frame so I got down low and began taking candid shots. Adults should never forget to take time to see the world as we did when we were children because there is magic even in an ordinary moment like playing in the sand at the beach. We have enjoyed showing my niece a different country with its amazing culture and inherent beauty that can only be experienced by traveling. Never forget to channel the wonder of childhood at any age and if you are lucky, maybe you can snap a pic to keep it with you forever. – Joe Pollarine
